The most distant and largest of the newly classified dwarf planets, Eris shows up as little more than a dot on the Keck Observatory photo at right although its moon can be seen. Its small size and great distance means that very little is known about it. Eris was previously designated 2003 UB313 with the nickname Xena. The moon was nicknamed Gabrielle and is now known as Dysnomia. The previous designations and nicknames are no longer in use.
