WHAT WE DO |
CLUB MEETING |
This is the central activity of the Association. It is where the members come together to discuss club matters, learn about the latest in astronomy, socialise, observe through the large telescope if weather permits and generally have a good time. You don't have to be a member to attend. |
Meetings every month except December on the last Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at the observatory. |
DAY CLUB |
Some of our members find it difficult or impossible to attend the club meeting so we have a meeting during the day that has similar content to the evening meeting. You don't have to be a member to attend. |
Next meeting - To Be Announced at the observatory. |
TELESCOPE NIGHTS |
On the first and third Tuesdays of the month members gather together to use our 12 inch computer controlled telescope. Computer control allows us to find exotic and unusual objects quickly. We also linger over more familiar objects such as the planets. For those interested training is given in the use of computer controlled telescopes and those who complete the course are presented with a certificate. |
All this with liberal quantities of tea or coffee, biscuits, laughter and socialising. |
Meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at the observatory starting at 7.30pm. |
SIDEWALK ASTRONOMY (with a difference) |
When the Moon is low in the eastern sky and the Sun is low in the west members head off to Town Green (a local park) with their telescopes and treat locals and visitors to telescopic views of the Sun and the Moon, all in broad daylight! Very popular with the public and gives the members a chance to show just how interesting our hobby is. |
Members meet at the observatory 2.30pm. At Town Green about 3 p m |
CLUB LIBRARY |
The library helps to keep members up to date on what is happening in the fast moving world of astronomy and space. Books, magazines, CD's and DVD's are available free to members. |
