PUBLIC OPEN NIGHTS The Port Macquarie Observatory is open to the public on Sunday and Wednesday nights. The entertaining and informative presentation, including the viewing of astronomical objects, starts at 7.30pm.
GROUP BOOKINGS Special bookings can be made for groups of 10 or more. A deposit is payable no less than 7 days before the booking. Bookings can be made for most days or evenings.

ASTRONOMY AND SPACE NEWS PROPOSED AUSTRALIAN SKA SITE MOVED. WESTERN Australia has moved its proposed site for the $2 billion Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio astronomy project. WA was one of two sites short-listed by international astronomers last year for the major project, the other site is in South Africa. 2009 DECLARED INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY The International Astronomical Union has declared 2009 to be the international year of astronomy. Watch the trailer video. NASA MARS ROVERS START YEAR FOUR. NASA's twin Mars rovers, nearing the third anniversary of their landings, are getting smarter as they get older. The unexpected longevity of Spirit and Opportunity is giving the space agency a chance to field-test on Mars some new capabilities useful both to these missions and future rovers. Spirit will begin its fourth year on Mars on Jan. 3 (PST); Opportunity on Jan. 24. In addition to their continuing scientific observations, they are now testing four new skills included in revised flight software uploaded to their onboard computers.
